Surf's Up: Wacky Hairday 'Do

I teach reading at a local elementary school. It's a fun place to work and my boys go there.
This week was Spirit Week. I usually don't indulge in all that that entails.
But this year, we had Wacky Hair Day.
How could I resist?!
I've done a 40's-style hair on regular days. I just made my Victory Rolls a little taller. =)

I used spray-on hair color to make it all blue, then added some SPLASHES of white.
I topped it off with a little Lego surfer dude that I glued on a hair clip.

The kids at school LOVED it!
I actually enjoyed myself ( and it was easy to wash out).
Long live Wacky Hair Day!

Family Recipe: Posse Stew

I don't know about you, but when it's cold I love soup for dinner! It just makes me feel good.
There's been a cold spell here in Arizona and I decided to spill the beans (HA!) on a family recipe.
My mom has made this for years and it is ALWAYS a big hit! So, (don't tell my mom) here's what you need:
1 large can Ranch Style beans (It's the black can in the above photo. The right beans are crucial!)
2 cans white hominy (find it in the canned veggies aisle)
2 cans corn
1 large can DICED tomatoes
1can diced green chilies
1 pound ground beef
1/4 c chopped onion
salt & pepper to taste
Start by browning the ground beef. Add salt and pepper to taste. Add chopped onion. Cook until done.

Next, open all the canned foods, DO NOT DRAIN any of them,
and dump them in your crock pot.
Add the meat, mix well, and cook for 6-8 hours.

ENJOY!

It's even better the next day!
print it here
This is also one of my go-to meals when I'm taking dinner to someone else.
I recently took it to a friend who is a vegetarian so I simply left out the meat. Still a HUGE hit!

What's your favorite cold weather meal?

Minecraft Love

The Minecraft craze has hit our house BIG TIME!
{How could it not, with three boys here?!}
With Valentine's Day around the corner we're getting ready for class parties.
My second-grader needed a box to hold all of his valentines and he wanted Minecraft!
Here's what I came up with:
For those of you (ME!) who aren't familiar with Minecraft, this character is named Herobrine.

I started with a 12x13 shoe box.

Next, I wrapped it in Christmas paper, backwards.

I wrapped the lid separately.

I proceeded to mark squares ALL OVER the entire thing.
Then I used a pic I found on the internet to mark the color each square needed to be.

I mixed some paints I already had to get the right colors. Then I used a sponge brush and painted square by square. I did every other square in opposite directions (one up & down, one side to side).

We cut out the mouth for the valentines to go in.

I let it dry overnight, just to be safe.

Then we put it together and VIOLA!

INSTANT VALENTINE'S HAPPINESS!

Homemade Ice Cream Sandwiches

Homemade Ice Cream Sandwiches . . . at least that's what we call 'em! My boys love this SWEET treat so I make them a lot. I posted a pic on Instagram last time we had them and had some requests for the recipe:
I hope your family likes these as much as mine!
What's your family's favorite treat?
