Fun Hot Dog Cake

The Boys in my house are pretty clever {that includes The Stud!}. We have a lot of fun coming up with fun ideas, games, and jokes. We LOVE holidays and try to make each one special.

Today, I want to share a clever cake you can whip up for Father's Day.
{It's also pretty cool for the 4th of July.}

Behold, the sensational Hot Dog Cake!
This cake is just as easy as it is fun!

Here's what you'll need:

  • 1 baked loaf cake (either make a loaf cake OR buy a pound cake)
  • 2 Twinkies
  • 1 cup "hot dog red" frosting (red and brown mixed)
  • Yellow tube icing
  • Red tube icing
  • Green fruit slices or gumdrops, diced (optional)
Start by cutting out the center of the loaf to form the "bun." You can also trim the outsides.
Save the cut-out portion to make the "French fries".

Next, trim off one end of each Twinkie and put the cut ends together to form a Twinkie "dog"; place in cut-out opening of cake "bun".

Frost "dog" with red/brown frosting mix. Add yellow and red tube icing to simulate mustard and ketchup.
Top with diced gumdrop "relish".

Then slice cut-out cake to resemble french fries. Put individual "fries" on cookie sheet and broil until all sides are browned. Let cool, then place them next to "hot dog". Drizzle fries with red icing "ketchup".

SIMPLE, right?!
I saw this about 10 years ago on FamilyFun.com
(which is now called Spoonful)
and it's been a family favorite ever since!

What's your go-to dessert for fun?
